- Find an issue that concerns you and learn about the details and players. Write to your elected officials or to the editor of your local paper about it. Or, attend a town hall meeting.
How to Get Involved in Specific Races
If there is a candidate in which you believe, there are a number of things you can do to help him/her.
- Obtain a sign and put it in your yard. Also distribute yard signs to your neighbors, friends and colleagues.
- Obtain a bumper sticker and place it on your car. Give them to your friends and neighbors.
- Speak of your candidate favorably to friends outside of work.
- Volunteer to make phone calls urging people to vote for your candidate. Volunteer for a phone bank and/or call your family, friends and co-workers.
- Hold a “meet the candidate” event in your home. Or, conduct a fundraiser for your candidate in your home.
- Stand at a street corner and hold your candidate’s sign.
- Be available to stand near a polling location and hold a sign in support of your candidate. Most states limit the distance a supporter can be from a polling place. Contact the campaign staff for guidance.
Note: Be sure to do these things on your personal time!
